Position Summary
In collaboration with the healthcare and administrative team and working within their scope of practice, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will assist providers in the delivery of patient care to ensure patient and provider needs are met and fall within Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians policies and procedures; performing administrative tasks as needed to maintain flow and function within the clinic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Greet patients during rooming process; taking and recording vital signs
• Obtain and document patient medical histories, current symptoms and medication lists
• Prepare exam rooms for procedures; select set up and maintain medical supply stock and equipment for all examinations, visits and procedures in the clinic. Assists providers with procedures as needed.
• Maintain a smooth flow of communication between patient, provider and other clinic staff.
• Appropriately obtains and manages specimens, including; labeling, form completion, transport to laboratories, and log maintenance.
o Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws for laboratory testing
• Transmit prescription refills as directed.
• Perform basic diagnostic tests; administer vaccines and perform EKG’s
• Document correctly in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
• Assist with physician requests and outgoing paperwork to ensure care for patients is completed.
o Completes referrals to other clinics and/or specialists and assist patient with scheduling as needed.
• Attends team meetings when assigned.
• Act as backup to front desk with needed; administrative tasks such as scheduling patients answering the phone
• Participate in training activities to increase professional skills.
• Closing duties to include: locking up all doors and windows, emptying shred bins, turn off lights and alarm setting.
• Follow HIPPA standards and maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Experience in a health-care setting strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of professional Medical theory and practices.
• Ability to apply medical techniques to patient care in clinic situations.
• Ability to type at least 45 wpm with no errors.
• Good command of computerized word processing programs.
• Ability to operate general office equipment including computers, photocopiers and fax machine.
• Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact while multi-tasking, organizing and scheduling patients.
• Ability to work well with others and elicit appropriate information to route calls appropriately.
• Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees.
• Ability to maintain complete confidentiality.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with clients, contractors, health resources, program staff, etc.
• Ability to prevent, calm and/or defuse upset callers and patients; working with them to identify concerns and provide solutions.
• Ability to prioritize work responsibilities, multi-task and stay on task while working with many interruptions.
• Ability to provide on-time attendance.
• Culture: Must have cultural sensitivity and be able to incorporate Native American community values in the health care process.
Position Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED
• Must hold a state certified Medical Assistant license through an accredited training program provided through Community Colleges and/or Vocational Schools. OR have a Registered Medical Assistant credential.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED). Certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.
• Requires successful interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members in order to foster optimal quality of outpatient care.
• WA State Driver License and ability to be approved by Tribal insurance to drive Tribal vehicles if applicable.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening.
• Specific level requirements are as follows:
o Level I: Requires 0-3 years of experience as a CMA, pay grade 5.
o Level II: Requires 3-10 years of experience as a CMA, pay grade 6.
o Level III: Requires 10+ years of experience as a CMA, pay grade 7.
• Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians is a drug-free workplace. All employees are subject to a pre-employment drug screen.
• All employees must pass a pre-employment FBI fingerprint background and state background check.
$26.89 -- 33.31 DOE
