Position Summary
Implement and monitor academic standards and excellence for Tribal children, tutor students in specific areas of need, plan activities and document educational progress. Work with Tribal children daily both in school and after school to achieve academic success. The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indian Youth Services department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· In and after school tutoring with tribal member students. Which may require:
o the ability to work with children who have IFSP,IEP and 504, using general education curriculum or modify to meet the child’s individual needs,
o ability to communicate with teachers and parents to support the educational progress of the students,
o act as a mentor and educational advocate to assist in the students’ progress,
o monitor grade reports for students,
· Plan and implement activities that encourage educational achievement;
· Act as a liaison between the Tribal community and educational agencies on behalf of Tribal students and parents;
· Advocate for students and parents with individual teachers, schools and educational agencies.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, participants and parents;
· Provide support to parents in addressing issues hindering their children’s educational success, including areas of Special Education and individuals with disabilities when applicable;
· Provide higher education counseling and assist potential students with financial aid applications if necessary.
· Assist with all educational youth programs and events such as, but not limited to the following: Spring break, Summer Youth Camp, Halloween event, Christmas event and spring equinox.
· May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Must possess excellent communication skills, positive attitude, and ability to cooperate with others.
· Exceptional interpersonal skills and teamwork are necessary. A great deal of time will be spent interacting with students, parents, school personnel, and other staff involved with the students;
· Must be computer literate.
· Must be a self-starter and have the ability to find imaginative solutions to issues that might arise.
· Knowledge of Washington academic standards a plus.
· Experience working with diverse populations;
· Willingness to work with a team of staff and departments to meet the needs of the Tribal community.

· Occasionally requires stooping which entails the use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Infrequently requires crouching.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Qualifications
· Education: Equivalent to completion of core course work from an accredited college or university in Education, Liberal Studies, Child Development, or closely related field preferred.
· Additional related education or training may be substituted for the required one year of experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities;
· Experience: Para-educator, tutoring or school-age programs are preferred, but not required.
· Experience working in a Tribal cultural setting is preferred.
· Must be able to pass thorough background check and have a valid driver’s license.
· Must adhere to the Stillaguamish policies and procedures set out by the Tribe.
